Bari Airport is located at Palese, around five miles to the west of the city, and is also known as Bari Palese. It is officially named Aeroporto di Bari Karol Wojtyla after the late Pope John Paul II, and its IATA code is BRI. The airport is an international one, with flights to several European countries including the UK, Belgium, Germany, Spain and Greece. There is also - at the time of writing - a once-weekly flight between Bari and New York, operated by Eurofly.
The modern airport of Bari-Palese, rebuilt in 2005 and dedicated to Karol Wojtyla, is the terminal of many airline companies like Air Berlin, Air One, Alitalia, EasyJet and Ryanair. Air transportation is able to ensure fast connections with Northern Italy and continental Europe, as well as the Mediterranean basin, the Balkans and other international destinations.
With over 1.5 million passengers each year, the Airport is growing rapidly; it has a large car parking area, about 15 shops and outlets and buses and cabs to and from the centre of Bari.
You can buy the ticket bus from the Airport.
Three frequent bus services run between the airport and Piazza Aldo Moro, in Bari, where there is the railway station.
The number 16 bus line is cheap and it operates until 9.30pm; it makes several small stops.
The Tempesta bus is a shuttle service; it is more expensive, but delivers you directly to the railway station of Bari, running until 11pm.
The Pugliairbus is a free shuttle line but it is available from mid-June to September.
